Fair Oaks Elementary School fifth graders celebrate Minnesota Hmong Day with classroom activities

Fair Oaks Elementary School fifth graders celebrate Minnesota Hmong Day with classroom activities

On May 14, staff and fifth graders at Fair Oaks Elementary School celebrated Minnesota Hmong Day. Parents of the fifth graders were invited to come and participate in the engagement activities as well.

In one classroom, students learned how to sew a Hmong story cloth. They watched a video and then got to work creating their own. In another classroom, students watched and participated in Hmong dances, led by fifth grade student leaders. In the final classroom, students made and tasted various Hmong foods and drinks.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) American Heritage Month, which recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. Osseo Area Schools honors and celebrates the unique contributions the AAPI community brings to schools across our district every day.
